How to Save Instagram Reels and Video Posts on Your Phone or Computer
Instagram's own options for keeping a video are limited. The Save bookmark only keeps a post inside the app, and it disappears if the creator deletes it; any built-in download option depends on the post and the creator's settings. If you want a real copy of your own Reel as a backup, or of a clip a friend has allowed you to reuse, you need the video file itself.
Here is how to do it on a phone or a computer, which links work, and how to use saved videos responsibly.
What you can save, and what you can't
Before you start, check that the video is one Vidizza can handle:
- Reels: supported. The link usually looks like
instagram.com/reel/.... - Video posts in the feed: supported. The link usually looks like
instagram.com/p/.... - Stories: not supported. If you paste a Story link, Vidizza tells you so and suggests trying a post or Reels link instead.
- Private accounts: posts from private accounts can't be downloaded. Vidizza only works with publicly visible posts and never asks for your Instagram login.
- Removed posts: if a post has been deleted or the link is broken, there is nothing left to save.
You don't need a Vidizza account either; the service is free and runs in your browser.
Step 1: Copy the Instagram link
On a phone (Instagram app)
- Open the Reel or video post you want to keep.
- Tap the Share icon (the paper plane).
- Tap Copy link. The link is now on your clipboard.
Labels vary a little between app versions; look for "Copy link" in the share menu.
On a computer (instagram.com)
- Open Instagram in your browser and click the post. It opens in a larger view, and the address bar changes to that post's own link.
- Copy the address from the address bar, or click the share icon and choose Copy link.
Step 2: Paste the link into Vidizza
- Open vidizza.com in any browser on your phone or computer. There is nothing to install.
- Tap the Paste button at the left end of the link box (on a phone it shows only a clipboard icon), or paste the link yourself (long-press the box on a phone, or press Ctrl+V / Cmd+V on a computer).
- Press DOWNLOAD. Vidizza detects that the link comes from Instagram and loads the video details.
If the Paste button says clipboard access was denied, your browser is blocking it. Paste the link by hand and carry on.
Step 3: Choose video or audio and save the file
When the video details appear, you get two buttons:
- Download Video saves the Reel or post as a video file.
- Download Audio Only saves just the sound as an MP3. This is handy for keeping a talk, a voice-over or a piece of music you have the right to use.
Unlike YouTube, Instagram videos have no resolution menu. Vidizza uses the quality Instagram offers for that post, so a video uploaded in low resolution stays that way. If the source is already in the widely supported H.264 format, it is delivered as it is; otherwise it is converted with high-quality settings so it plays on common phones and computers.
Where does the file end up?
- iPhone (Safari): Safari may ask you to confirm the download. The file goes to the Downloads folder in the Files app. Open the video there, tap the share icon and choose Save Video to move it into Photos.
- Android (Chrome): the file lands in the Download folder and on most phones also shows up in your gallery or Files app.
- Computer: the file goes to your browser's usual download folder.
Limits worth knowing
Vidizza is free to use: there is no subscription, no paid plan, no hidden fee and no sign-up. The site is supported by ads and optional donations.
To keep things fair for everyone, Instagram downloads have an hourly limit per IP address (in practice, per network), counted separately from the other platforms. You can run a few downloads at the same time, for example in separate tabs. If you see a message that many downloads are in progress or that the platform is busy, wait a while and try again.
Vidizza does not keep copies of the videos you download.
Using saved videos responsibly
Being able to download a video doesn't mean you're free to reuse it. Content on Instagram belongs to the people who made it. A few simple rules:
- Saving your own Reels, for a backup or to post them somewhere else, is fine.
- Saving someone else's video is fine when you have their permission, for example a friend's clip from an event you both attended.
- Don't re-upload other people's videos as your own, crop out their name, or use them commercially without permission. That may be illegal and may break Instagram's terms.
Vidizza's Terms of Use put it plainly: "Do not download copyrighted content without permission." If you're not sure, ask the creator first, and credit them whenever you share their work.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download Instagram Stories?
No. Stories are not supported at the moment. Reels and video posts from public accounts work; if you paste a Story link, Vidizza will point you back to those.
Why can't I save a video from a private account?
Private posts are visible only to approved followers, so Vidizza can't download them, and it never asks for your Instagram password. If the video is your own, you probably still have the original on your phone, and Instagram also lets you request a copy of your data from its account settings.
Is it free, and do I need an app?
It's free, and there is no account to create or app to install. Vidizza runs in the browser on phones and computers.
Will the video lose quality?
Vidizza keeps the resolution Instagram provides for that post. Videos already in H.264 are delivered as they are; others are converted with high-quality settings so they play on common devices.
Is there a limit on Instagram downloads?
Yes, there is an hourly fair-use limit per IP address, and a few downloads can run at once. If you see a message that many downloads are in progress, wait a while and try again at Vidizza.
Paste a link and save the video for free.
